Custom Spout Pouches in Any Pouch Style
A custom spout pouch is a flexible pouch fitted with a sealed plastic spout and cap — also called a spouted pouch or nozzle pouch — used for liquids, purees, sauces, gels and liquid detergents that consumers pour, squeeze or dose straight from the pack. Ruihong Packaging builds custom spout pouches on stand-up, flat bottom (box pouch), three-side-seal and four-side-seal pouch bases, with spout diameters of 8.6, 10, 16, 22 and 33 mm, MOQ 10,000 pcs for gravure or 3,000 pcs per order for digital printing, and 12-15 day or 7-9 day production lead times after artwork approval.
- 5 standard spout sizes, inner diameter customisable
- 4 rotogravure lines, up to 11-color printing
- Leak, seal and pressure tested on every run
Custom Spout Pouches Built to Your Specification
A custom spout pouch is specified in six places: the base pouch style, the pouch size, the film structure and thickness, the printing, the spout itself, and the finishing accessories. Ruihong Packaging manufactures all six in one factory in Foshan, so a spouted pouch is quoted as a single unit rather than assembled from several suppliers.
The spout is fitted during bag making, which is why the pouch style decides where it can sit. A stand-up pouch takes a corner, centre or top spout; a flat bottom pouch (box pouch) usually takes a top-centre spout on the flat top panel; a three-side-seal sachet takes a small single-serve spout; and a four-side-seal pouch takes a spout on the top seal with four clean fin seals around the body. Fill volume, filling machine, cap type and the required shelf life all feed into that decision, so we confirm the spout position on a drawing before tooling.
Because printing, lamination and bag making run in house, film structure can be tuned to the product instead of being picked from a catalogue: see our flexible packaging materials overview, or read how the same factory handles custom printed flexible packaging for other pouch formats.

Pouch Styles You Can Build a Spout Pouch On
The four base styles below cover almost every spout pouch project: a stand-up pouch (doypack) for shelf-facing retail packs, a flat bottom pouch (box pouch, quad seal pouch) for premium large-format packs, a three-side-seal sachet for single-serve doses, and a four-side-seal pouch for a flat, framed look. Each one accepts a spout, and each one changes what the pack can hold.
Stand-Up Pouch (Doypack)
Bottom gusset lets the filled pouch stand unaided.
A bottom gusset opens into a base so the pouch stands on a shelf or in a fridge door. The spout fits at a top corner or at the centre of the top seal. Custom spout pouches normally carry no zipper, hang hole or handle — the spout is the closure — so the finishing options are a tear notch, a clear window, rounded corners and a matte, gloss or spot-finish surface.
Most used for Custom printed pouch options
Flat Bottom Pouch (Box Pouch)
Five-panel structure with a rectangular footprint.
Four vertical seals and a folded base give a box-like pack with flat front and back panels, so it holds more volume for the same shelf width and stacks well in cartons. The spout sits at the centre of the flat top panel, leaving both side panels free for brand artwork.
Most used for Flat bottom pouch specifications
Three-Side-Seal Sachet
Three fin seals, lowest film cost per unit.
Sealed on three sides with no gusset, so the sachet is flat, light and cheap to fill. It takes a small-diameter spout for direct dosing, which keeps the pack usable without scissors and removes the need for a separate cup or measuring spoon.
Most used for Three side seal bag specifications
Four-Side-Seal Pouch
Sealed on all four edges, no back seam.
Four fin seals frame both faces, so the front and back are printed edge to edge with no back seam breaking the artwork. The pack stays flat and thin, which suits multipacks and mail-ready formats, and the spout is fitted into the top seal.

Spout Customisation: Size, Material, Colour and Cap
The spout is the part a buyer’s customer touches every time they use a spout pouch, so it is specified as carefully as the film. Ruihong Packaging fits five standard spout sizes — 8.6, 10, 16, 22 and 33 mm — and makes other inner diameters to order, in the spout material, colour, cap type and position your filling line and product need.
| Spout size | Typical fill volume | Common cap / closure | Typical products |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8.6 mm | 15-60 ml | Small screw cap or flip-top, sometimes with a tear-off tamper band | Energy gels, honey sticks, cosmetic samples, oral care doses |
| 10 mm | 30-150 ml | Screw cap or flip-top cap | Concentrated sauces, syrups, liquid medicine, single-serve condiments |
| 16 mm | 100-500 ml | Flip-top cap, screw cap, push-pull sports cap | Juice and juice concentrate, puree, soy milk, liquid detergent refill |
| 22 mm | 300-1,000 ml | Screw cap, flip-top cap, dosing cap | Sauces and pastes, dairy and cream, shampoo and body wash refills |
| 33 mm | 500-2,000 ml and above | Wide screw cap, dosing or measuring cap | Hot pot base and thick sauces, cooking oil, liquid pet food toppers, liquid fertiliser |
| Custom inner diameter | Project specific | Confirmed with your filling equipment | Products or filling lines that do not match a standard spout |
Spout sizes above are the sizes we fit most often; other inner diameters are produced to order when your filling nozzle or target dose calls for it.
Spout material
Food-contact grade plastic spouts are matched to the film structure and to the process the filled pouch goes through. Spouts for hot-fill and retort projects are selected so the spout and the seal layer stay compatible.
Spout colour
Spouts and caps are supplied in standard colours or matched to your brand colour, so the closure reads as part of the pack design instead of a stock part. Colour is confirmed against the printed artwork at sampling.
Cap and closure type
Screw cap, flip-top cap, push-pull sports cap, dosing cap and tamper-evident options. The cap has to suit both the consumer’s use and your filling line, so we confirm it before tooling.
Spout position
Top corner, top centre, or on the flat top panel of a box pouch. Position affects pouring angle, how completely the pack empties and how the pouch behaves in a filling machine, so it is agreed on a drawing first.
Custom Spout Pouch Specifications
These are the parameters to settle before quoting a custom spout pouch. Note that a spout pouch normally carries no zipper, hang hole or handle — the spout is the closure. Anything not listed here is confirmed per project: send the product, target fill weight, filling method and shelf life and we recommend the structure, thickness and spout rather than quoting a generic pouch.
| Item | Standard options | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pouch style | Stand-up pouch (doypack), flat bottom pouch (box pouch), three-side-seal sachet, four-side-seal pouch | Decides where the spout can be fitted and how the pouch stands or stacks |
| Spout size | 8.6, 10, 16, 22, 33 mm; other inner diameters to order | Choose by target dose and filling nozzle, not by pouch size |
| Fill volume | 15 ml single-serve sachets up to 2,000 ml and above in box pouches | Film structure and spout diameter are set by the fill volume and product viscosity |
| Material structure | PET/PE, PET/VMPET/PE, PET/AL/PE, PET/AL/NY/PE, PET/PA/AL/RCPP, kraft paper laminates | Typical structures — the final build is confirmed per product, shelf life and process |
| Film thickness | Commonly 90-180 µm total, thicker for retort and large-format packs | Thickness follows the barrier and strength requirement, not a fixed catalogue value |
| Heat resistance | Standard food-contact structures, plus retort-grade structures with an RCPP seal layer | RCPP inner layers are selected for hot fill and retort sterilisation projects |
| Printing | Rotogravure up to 11 colors on 4 lines (7, 8, 9, 11-color presses); digital printing for short runs | Gravure for colour-critical brand work and large runs, digital for small runs and multiple SKUs |
| Accessories | Tear notch, easy-tear opening, clear window, rounded corners, matte or gloss finish | Spout pouches do not normally carry a zipper, hang hole or handle — the spout is the closure; accessories change the bag-making setup, so confirm them before tooling |
| MOQ | 10,000 pcs (gravure) / 3,000 pcs per order (digital) | Digital printing has no real minimum — the 3,000 pcs floor covers international shipping; multiple SKUs can be combined to reach it, and unit price rises when a single SKU is very small |
| Best-price point | One full roll of film (6,000 m) | Quantity per roll = 6,000 ÷ pouch width (m). Example: a 160 (W) × 240 (H) + 85 mm pouch = 6,000 ÷ 0.16 = 37,500 pcs |
| Production lead time | 7-9 days (digital) / 12-15 days (gravure) | Counted from artwork approval and order confirmation, not from first enquiry |
| Quality checks | Seal strength, leak and pressure testing, print and colour check, dimensional check | Run on 6 quality inspection machines before packing |
Material structures and thickness in this table describe the builds we produce most often. Because lamination runs in house on 3 solvent-free lines and 2 dry lamination machines, barrier level can be adjusted to your shelf-life target.
Choosing the Film Structure and Thickness
The performance of a spout pouch is decided by the film, not the spout: the structure controls barrier, the seal layer controls how the pouch closes around the spout, and the outer layer carries the print. For spouted pouches the three most common builds are PET/PE, PET/VMPET/PE and PET/AL/PE, with PET/PA/AL/RCPP for hot fill and retort projects.
| Structure | Barrier level | Best suited to | Typical use in a spout pouch |
|---|---|---|---|
| PET/PE | Standard | Short shelf life, non-sensitive liquids | Refill packs, samples and sachets where light and oxygen are not critical |
| PET/VMPET/PE | Medium to high | Liquids and semi-liquids needing light protection | Detergent, shampoo, sauces and gels with a metallized look |
| PET/AL/PE | High | Oxygen, moisture and light sensitive products | Long shelf-life sauces, purees, dairy alternatives and liquid foods |
| PET/PA/AL/RCPP | High, heat resistant | Hot fill and retort sterilisation | Retortable sauces, ready meals, pet food and products sterilised after filling |
| Kraft paper laminates | Medium | Natural and premium positioning | Organic, craft and eco-positioned liquid or semi-liquid products |
The RCPP (retort cast polypropylene) inner layer is the one to specify when the filled pouch is heat treated: it keeps the seal intact through hot fill or retort sterilisation and stays compatible with the spout material, which is where most leaks in retort spout pouches originate. Tell us the sterilisation temperature and time and we match the seal layer and spout to it. Film structure and thickness are then fixed with the quality control process for your batch.
Custom Spout Pouch Options by Project Type
Once the base style and spout are fixed, most spout pouch projects are defined by what the buyer adds: print coverage, barrier level, a clear window, or a closure that has to keep the pouch usable after opening. The combinations below cover the custom spout pouch options we are asked for most often.
| Option | What changes on the pouch | Typical project |
|---|---|---|
| Custom printed spout pouch | Rotogravure printing up to 11 colors, or digital printing for short runs, on the base style of your choice | Brand launches and repeat retail orders where artwork is the main decision |
| Spout pouch with a clear window | A unprinted window is left in the front panel so the product shows through | Sauces, honey and juices where visible product colour is part of the sell |
| Spout pouch with a tear notch | A tear notch or easy-tear opening is added on the top edge of the pouch body | Single-serve and refill packs where the pouch has to be opened quickly by hand |
| Foil spout pouch | An aluminium foil layer (PET/AL/PE) blocks light, oxygen and moisture | Long shelf-life liquid foods, purees and dairy alternatives |
| Retort spout pouch | A heat-resistant seal layer (PET/PA/AL/RCPP) survives hot fill or retort sterilisation | Retortable sauces, ready meals and wet pet food sterilised after filling |
| Spout pouch with rounded corners | Corner radius is cut to your die-line instead of a square seal | Consumer-facing refill and travel packs where sharp corners are a handling or safety issue |
Surface finish is chosen at the same time: gloss keeps printed colours bright, matte and soft-touch give a premium feel, and spot gloss or spot matte combines the two on one spout pouch. A euro hole, zipper or handle is used on flat and non-spouted pouches, not on spouted packs. Format questions outside spouted packaging — printed roll film, for example — are covered on our roll stock film page.
Applications for Custom Spout Pouches
Custom spout pouches sell wherever a consumer has to pour, squeeze or dose without a spoon. Ruihong Packaging supplies custom printed spout pouches across food and beverage, condiments, specialty nutrition, personal and home care, pet food, and agriculture and industrial products.

Manufacturing Capability Behind Your Spout Pouch Order
Printing, lamination and bag making all happen in one plant in Foshan, which is what makes a fully custom spout pouch practical. Ruihong Packaging runs 4 rotogravure lines covering 7, 8, 9 and 11-color work, plus digital printing, 55 bag-making and auxiliary machines, and 3 solvent-free lamination lines.
| Equipment | Quantity | What it does for your order |
|---|---|---|
| Rotogravure printing lines | 4 lines (7, 8, 9, 11-color) | Up to 11-color printing for brand-critical artwork and repeat orders |
| Digital printing | Digital press | Short runs and multiple SKUs without plate cost |
| Bag-making and auxiliary machines | 55 | Stand-up, flat bottom, three-side-seal and four-side-seal pouch forming, plus spout fitting |
| Solvent-free lamination machines | 3 | Barrier builds with no solvent residue in the laminate |
| Dry lamination machines | 2 | Structures that require adhesive lamination, including foil builds |
| Slitting machines | 4 | Roll preparation and consistent web width before bag making |
| Quality inspection machines | 6 | Inspection of printed and finished pouches before packing |
MOQ, Pricing and the One-Roll Rule
Spout pouch pricing is driven by two things: how the artwork is printed, and how much film the order consumes. Ruihong Packaging quotes 10,000 pcs minimum for gravure printing and 3,000 pcs per order for digital, and the unit price drops noticeably once an order consumes one full roll of film.
The one-roll rule: how buyers calculate the best price point
One roll of film holds 6,000 metres. The quantity that consumes one full roll is 6,000 ÷ pouch width (in metres). Example: for a 160 (W) × 240 (H) + 85 mm spout pouch, one roll equals 6,000 ÷ 0.16 = 37,500 pcs — that order quantity gets the most competitive gravure price.
Digital printing has no real minimum quantity. The 3,000 pcs floor exists to cover international shipping, multiple SKUs can be combined to reach it, and unit price rises noticeably when any single SKU is very small. If you are launching several flavours or fragrances at once, digital printing with combined SKUs is usually the cheaper route.
Printing differences by run size are explained in more detail on our printing technology page.
Custom Spout Pouch Order Process
Six steps from enquiry to delivery. The two steps worth planning around are artwork confirmation, which starts the production clock, and spout and size confirmation, which has to be final before tooling because it changes the bag-making setup.
-
STEP 01
Requirement review
Send the product, pouch style, size in mm, target fill weight, spout size and cap, order quantity and delivery city. We confirm the structure, thickness and spout position, then quote EXW, FOB or CIF.
-
STEP 02
Quotation and die-line
You receive the unit price with the film structure, spout specification and MOQ stated, plus a die-line showing dimensions and spout position for your artwork.
-
STEP 03
Artwork confirmation
Artwork is checked for print colours, bleed, seal areas and barcode placement. Production lead time starts when the artwork and order are both confirmed.
-
STEP 04
Printing
Gravure printing on the 7, 8, 9 or 11-color line, or digital printing for short runs and combined SKUs, with colour checked against the approved proof.
-
STEP 05
Lamination and curing
Films are laminated on 3 solvent-free lines or 2 dry lamination machines and cured for the full period the adhesive requires before bag making.
-
STEP 06
Bag making, spout fitting and inspection
Pouches are formed, spouts and caps fitted, then tested for seal strength and leaks and inspected before packing and shipping.

Custom Spout Pouches: Buyer Questions
The questions buyers ask most often before placing a first spout pouch order, answered with the numbers we quote from: spout sizes, MOQ, lead time, material and leak testing.
A spout pouch is a flexible pouch with a sealed plastic spout and cap, also called a spouted pouch or nozzle pouch, used for pouring, squeezing or dosing liquid and semi-liquid products. Typical products are juice, puree, sauces, condiments, honey, shampoo and detergent refills, liquid pet food toppers, energy gels and liquid fertiliser.
The five sizes we fit most often are 8.6 mm, 10 mm, 16 mm, 22 mm and 33 mm, covering single-serve doses of about 15 ml up to large box pouches of 2,000 ml and above. Other inner diameters can be customised to your filling nozzle or target dose, and the spout material, colour, cap type and position are specified with the order.
MOQ is 10,000 pcs for gravure printing and 3,000 pcs per order for digital printing. Digital printing has no real minimum — the 3,000 pcs floor covers international shipping, and multiple SKUs can be combined to reach it. Unit price rises noticeably when a single SKU is very small.
Yes. Base style (stand-up, flat bottom, three-side-seal or four-side-seal), size in mm, film structure, thickness, spout and printing are all specified on one order, together with accessories such as a tear notch, clear window or matte finish. Because printing, lamination and bag making run in one plant, the combination is produced on a single line.
For most spouted pouches we recommend PET/PE for short shelf life, PET/VMPET/PE where light protection is needed, and PET/AL/PE for long shelf life or oxygen-sensitive products. For hot fill or retort sterilisation we use PET/PA/AL/RCPP, because the RCPP inner layer keeps the seal intact through heat treatment and stays compatible with the spout.
Production lead time is 7-9 days for digital printing and 12-15 days for gravure printing. Both are counted from artwork approval and order confirmation, not from the first enquiry, and shipping transit time is additional. Orders with retort structures need the extra curing period built into the schedule.
Filled and unfilled pouches are checked for seal strength and for leaks at the spout seal, the most common failure point, before packing. Inspection runs on 6 quality inspection machines and covers print, colour and dimensions. Tell us your filling and sterilisation conditions so we can test against the process the pouch will actually go through.
Unit price depends on pouch size, film structure, spout size and cap, and print method, so we quote per project. The best gravure price point is one full roll of film: a roll holds 6,000 m, so the quantity is 6,000 ÷ pouch width in metres. For a 160 (W) × 240 (H) + 85 mm pouch that is 37,500 pcs.
Normally no. A spout pouch uses the spout and cap as its closure, so adding a zipper or hang hole is not standard practice and we do not recommend it. Finishing options for a spout pouch are a tear notch, a clear window, rounded corners, and matte, gloss or soft-touch surfaces. A zipper or hang hole fits flat pouches, which we also produce.
