Custom 4 Side Seal Bags in Your Size, Material, Thickness and Finish
A custom 4 side seal bag is a flat pouch heat sealed along all four edges — also called a four side seal pouch or quad seal sachet. With no bottom gusset and no back seam, both faces are unbroken print panels, which is why this format carries single-serve food, powder, cosmetic and hardware pouches. Ruihong Packaging builds them to your dimensions, film structure, thickness, artwork, surface finish and accessories, at MOQ 10,000 pcs for gravure or 3,000 pcs per order for digital printing, with 12-15 day and 7-9 day production lead times counted from artwork approval.
- Up to 11-color rotogravure on 4 printing lines
- MOQ 10,000 pcs gravure / 3,000 pcs digital per order
- Clear window, tear notch, hang hole and rounded corner options
What Are Custom 4 Side Seal Bags?
A four side seal bag is a flat pouch sealed along all four edges with fin seals, with no bottom gusset, no back seam and no insert. Because every edge is closed, both panels are flat and unbroken, giving the largest print area of any flexible pouch format for the film it uses.
That construction defines where the format is used: single-serve and small-format packs filled as a portion, not as a bulk bag. The four seals also let the pouch be finished in ways a gusseted bag cannot be — a punched hang hole, rounded die-cut corners, a rigid flat body that stacks and ships flat, and a straight, symmetric edge on every side. Sealed edge to sealed edge, the pouch is designed to look deliberate on a shelf or in a presentation box.
Custom means six things are set by you rather than taken from a catalogue: pouch dimensions, film structure, film thickness, printing, surface finish, and accessories such as a clear window or hang hole. Because printing, lamination and bag making all run in one plant in Foshan, they are agreed against a single die-line and quoted as one unit price. That journey is described on our custom printed flexible packaging page.
One structural point decides most specifications before the quote: the format has no resealable opening. A press-to-close zipper cannot be fitted to a four-edge-sealed pouch, because the filled pouch is closed by its own seals rather than folded over. If a resealable pack is what the product needs, the right format is a custom three side seal bag, a stand-up pouch or a flat bottom pouch.

Custom 4 Side Seal Bag Types We Manufacture
Every pouch below starts from the same four-edge-sealed flat body and differs in what you specify: material structure, film type, surface finish, accessory, or the application it is built for. Treat each one as a specification starting point rather than a fixed product — size, thickness, print, accessory layout, spout, handle and gusset reinforcement are all customised per order.
Standard 4 Side Seal Sachet
The base four side seal pouch: four fin seals, no gusset, printed or unprinted. Used for powders, small portions and samples where a flat, stackable sachet is the most economical format. Size, seal width and film are made to your die-line.
Custom packaging options
4 Side Seal Spout Pouch
A sealed spout and cap fitted into the flat four side seal body, so liquids, gels and semi-liquids can be poured or dosed without a cup. Used for energy gels, honey, sauce portions and cosmetic samples. Spout size, material, colour, cap type and position are all specified per order.
Custom spout pouch specifications
Four Side Seal Sachet in Foil or Metallised Laminate
A PET/AL/PE or metallised laminate blocks light, oxygen, moisture and odour, which is what protects aroma in spices, milk powder, soup base and seasoning portions. The foil core also gives a dead-fold feel that supports a premium positioned brand.
Aluminium foil pouches
4 Side Seal Coffee Sachet
For flat-format coffee: single-serve ground coffee sachets, instant coffee sticks and sample packs. Built on a high-barrier foil or metallised laminate to hold aroma, printed in matte or gloss, or finished in registered spot gloss so the logo lifts off the pouch.
Coffee packaging solutions
Milk Powder and Powder Sachet
Powder is the hardest product to keep dry, so powder sachets are usually specified on a foil or metallised laminate with a wide seal to resist filling-line pressure. Used for milk powder, protein and drink mixes, cocoa, instant soup and nutritional powder portions.
Metallised VMPET film
Window and Clear Four Side Seal Pouch
A registered unprinted window, or a fully transparent film, so the fill shows through on shelf. Window position and size are set on the die-line because the unprinted area also changes how the rest of the artwork reads. Popular for confectionery, tea, dried fruit and sample pouches.
Flexible packaging materials
Four Side Seal Tea Sachet
Flat tea pouches with sealed edges on all four sides, in metallised or foil laminate to hold aroma and keep light out. A punch hole in the sealed top edge turns the same sachet into a pegboard retail unit, which is the single most requested accessory on tea four side seal work.
Tea packaging solutions
Four Side Seal Rice Packaging Outer Bag with Handle
The printed rice outer bag, not the vacuum inner liner: a laminated four side seal bag sized for 5 kg to 25 kg retail rice and grain, with a plastic carry handle fitted into the top seal and a reinforced body for stacking and export handling. Filled with the rice already vacuum packed in a separate clear inner pouch.
Rice bag material options
Hang Hole and Rounded Corner Sachet
Because all four edges are already sealed, the pouch can be die-cut: a euro or hang hole for pegboard display, or a rounded corner radius for handling and mail-ready packs. Both are cut during bag making and must be on the die-line before tooling starts.
Custom packaging process
Kraft Paper Laminated Pouch
A kraft paper outer layer laminated to a moisture-barrier inner film, for organic, clean-label and farm-direct brands. The uncoated surface prints in one to four colours with a warm, tactile result that gloss film cannot reproduce. Available with a clear window.
Kraft paper laminated pouches
Rice Vacuum Four Side Seal Inner Bag
The vacuum inner liner that sits inside the printed outer sack: a fully transparent four side seal pouch laminated for vacuum filling, so the rice is visible and any seal failure shows before the sack is closed. Gauge and barrier level are set by the vacuum, the fill weight and the shelf-life target.
Vacuum film and laminate options
Heavy-Duty Quad Seal Bag
A reinforced four side seal build for demanding fills: heavier side gussets and a thicker film than a standard sachet, so the bag carries industrial powder, chemical and fertiliser loads without splitting at the seals. Seal width, gusset reinforcement and film gauge are specified against the fill weight and drop test.
Material and film optionsNeed a build that is not listed? Send the product, the target portion size and how the pouch is filled — structure, thickness, seal layout and accessories are confirmed with the quote.
Four Side Seal vs Three Side Seal, Stand-Up and Flat Bottom Pouches
Four side seal is the flat, fully sealed portion pouch. Three side seal is the lighter flat sachet, a stand-up pouch adds a bottom gusset so the pack stands unaided, and a flat bottom pouch (box pouch, quad seal pouch) is a five-panel format for larger premium packs. The table below is the fastest way to pick the right format before a quote.
| Pouch format | Structure | Resealable option | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Four side seal bag | Flat pouch, fin seals on all four edges, no gusset, no back seam | No — the pouch is closed by its own four seals | Single-serve portions, sheet and flat products, cosmetic sachets, hardware parts, pegboard retail sachets |
| Three side seal bag | Flat sachet, seals on both sides and the top only | Yes, a press-to-close zipper can be fitted | Cost-driven single-serve packs, powder, candy, coffee and sauce sachets |
| Stand-up pouch | Bottom gusset, so the pouch stands unaided (doypack) | Yes, zipper, spout or valve | Retail packs that must stand on a shelf, liquids, coffee, pet treats |
| Flat bottom pouch | Five-panel box pouch, also called a quad seal pouch | Yes, zipper, valve or handle | Larger premium retail packs, 500 g to 5 kg, box-like shelf presence |
Detailed specifications for the alternatives are on our three side seal bag, stand-up pouch, flat bottom pouch and spout pouch pages.
Customisation Options: Size, Material, Thickness, Printing, Finish and Accessories
A custom four side seal bag is specified in seven places: pouch dimensions, capacity, film structure, film thickness, printing, surface finish, and accessories such as a clear window, tear notch, hang hole or handle. All of them are agreed against one die-line and quoted as a single unit price.
| What you customise | What you specify | How it is confirmed before tooling |
|---|---|---|
| Pouch size | Finished width × height in mm, plus the seal width if your filling machine needs one | Matched to your filling machine and target fill weight on a die-line drawing |
| Capacity | Target fill weight in g or ml per pouch | Converted into the internal volume your product needs, including headspace for powder |
| Film structure | Barrier level: standard, metallised, aluminium foil, or heat resistant for hot fill | Recommended from the product, shelf life and filling process, then confirmed on the sample |
| Film thickness | Total gauge of the laminate | Set by fill weight, product type and barrier target — thickness follows the structure rather than being chosen separately |
| Printing | Gravure or digital, number of colours, and artwork coverage | Colour count is checked against your artwork file; a printed proof is approved before the run |
| Surface finish | Gloss, matte, soft-touch, or spot (registered) gloss and matte | Chosen with the artwork, because finish changes how printed colours read |
| Window | Clear unprinted area, or fully transparent film | Window position and size are cut into the die-line, because they change the printed panel |
| Tear notch | Notch or laser score on one or both edges | Placed on the seal area so the pouch opens cleanly without scissors |
| Hang hole | Euro hole or round punch in the top seal | Position and diameter fixed on the die-line for pegboard and retail strip display |
| Handle | A carry handle on larger four side seal formats | Confirmed case by case, because a handle changes the seal layout and the bag-making setup |
| Rounded corners | Die-cut corner radius instead of square corners | Fixed on the die-line; used for handling, travel packs and mail-ready formats |
Two details cause most of the back-and-forth on a first order. Size: quote the finished pouch width × height, not the flat film size, and state the fill weight the pouch has to hold. Filling method: tell us whether the pouches are filled on a pre-made pouch machine or formed from film on your own form-fill-seal line — the same structure can be supplied as finished pouches or as printed roll stock film.
A press-to-close zipper is not part of this format, so it is deliberately not listed above. Resealable packs are built on three side seal, stand-up or flat bottom pouches instead.
Film Structures and Barrier Levels
The film structure decides shelf life, seal strength and how the pouch behaves on your filling line. For four side seal bags we most often produce five builds: PET/PE for short shelf life, PET/VMPET/PE where light protection is needed, PET/AL/PE for long shelf life, PET/PA/AL/RCPP for hot fill and retort, and kraft paper laminates for a natural shelf look.
| Structure | Barrier level | Best suited to | Typical use in a four side seal pouch |
|---|---|---|---|
| PET/PE | Standard | Short shelf life, non-sensitive dry goods | Sample sachets, wipes and cosmetic sachets, hardware parts |
| PET/VMPET/PE | Medium to high | Dry products that need light protection | Tea, snack, nut and powder sachets with a metallised finish |
| PET/AL/PE | High | Products sensitive to oxygen, moisture and light | Coffee sticks, milk powder, spice, soup base and mask sachets |
| PET/PA/AL/RCPP | High, heat resistant | Hot fill and retort sterilisation | Retortable sauce, paste and wet pet food portions |
| Kraft paper laminates | Medium | Natural and premium positioning | Organic tea, coffee and dry food sachets |
These are the structures we produce most often; the final build is confirmed per product, shelf life and filling process. Because lamination runs in house on 3 solvent-free lines and 2 dry lamination machines, the barrier level can be adjusted to your shelf-life target instead of being picked from a fixed list. See the full material and film options and our kraft paper laminate page.
Gravure or Digital Printing: Choosing Your Print Method
Two print methods cover custom four side seal bags: rotogravure for repeat orders and colour-critical brand work, and digital printing for short runs and multi-SKU projects. Ruihong Packaging runs four rotogravure lines — 7, 8, 9 and 11-color presses — plus digital printing, so the same artwork is produced either way without changing supplier.
| Aspect | Rotogravure printing | Digital printing |
|---|---|---|
| Best run size | Repeat orders and high volumes | Trials, launches and several SKUs at once |
| Minimum order | 10,000 pcs | 3,000 pcs per order — multiple SKUs can be combined to reach it |
| Colours | Up to 11 colours across 4 lines (7, 8, 9 and 11-color presses) | Full-colour digital print with no plate cost |
| How unit cost behaves | Plate cost is charged once per design, and unit price falls as quantity rises | No plates, so short runs stay affordable — but unit price rises noticeably when a single SKU is very small |
| Production lead time | 12-15 days from artwork approval | 7-9 days from artwork approval |
| Typical project | Retail sachet ranges, coffee sticks, tea and spice lines | Multi-flavour launches, samples and market tests |

Surface Finishes and Accessories for 4 Side Seal Bags
Surface finish and accessories are what make two four side seal pouches with identical film structure look and behave differently on shelf. Finish is chosen with the artwork, and every accessory below is fitted or cut during bag making, so all of it is confirmed on the die-line before tooling starts.
| Surface finish | How it reads on shelf | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Gloss | Brightest colours and the highest contrast | Snack, candy and confectionery sachets |
| Matte | Soft, low-reflection surface with a premium feel | Coffee, tea and specialty food sachets |
| Soft-touch | A velvet feel in the hand, used for premium positioning | Cosmetic, mask, gift and high-end food sachets |
| Spot gloss or spot matte | Two finishes registered on one pouch so the logo lifts off the background | Brand artwork where one element has to stand out |
| Accessory | What it adds | When buyers ask for it |
|---|---|---|
| Clear window | An unprinted area so the product shows through | Candy, tea, dried fruit and snack sachets |
| Tear notch or laser score | A controlled opening point that needs no scissors | Food-service portions and single-serve consumer packs |
| Hang hole or euro hole | A punched hole in the sealed edge for pegboard display | Retail sachets sold on a hook rather than in a box |
| Rounded corners | A die-cut radius instead of square corners | Consumer handling, travel packs and mail-ready formats |
| Handle | A carry handle on larger four side seal formats | Larger multi-portion packs that have to be carried by hand |
| Roll film instead of pouches | The same structure supplied as printed roll stock | Buyers filling on their own form-fill-seal line |
| Zipper | Not available on this format — a four-edge-sealed pouch has no resealable opening | Choose a three side seal, stand-up or flat bottom pouch instead |
Accessories change the bag-making setup and the unit price, so tell us which ones you need with the enquiry rather than after the sample. We also produce printed film and pouches for buyers who fill in house — see printed roll stock film.
Applications for Custom Four Side Seal Bags
Four side seal pouches are used wherever a product ships as a flat portion, a sheet product or a small set of parts. Ruihong Packaging supplies them across the industries we serve, matched to the filling method, shelf life and retail channel rather than sold from a fixed catalogue.
| Industry | Typical products | What the pouch has to solve |
|---|---|---|
| Food & Beverage | Coffee sticks, tea sachets, milk powder, cocoa, drink mixes | Aroma and moisture protection with a clean tear opening |
| Snacks & Confectionery | Candy, biscuits, nuts, granola and dried fruit portions | Grease resistance, a full-face printed panel and fast filling |
| Condiments & Sauces | Ketchup, dressing, soy sauce, soup base, curry portions | Leak-proof seals and hot-fill or retort capability |
| Specialty Nutrition | Protein and nutritional powder, baby food portions, paste | Accurate portioning, barrier protection and hygienic opening |
| Personal & Home Care | Sheet mask sachets, serum and cream samples, detergent sachets | A flat body that holds a sheet or pad without creasing, plus a premium finish |
| Pet Food | Treat portions, toppers, paste and powder supplements | Strong seals for export handling and easy portioning |
| Agriculture & Horticulture | Seed samples, fertiliser and nutrient portions | Chemical resistance and moisture protection in small doses |
| Industrial Products | Electronic components, small hardware, lubricant and cleaning portions | Puncture resistance and a clearly printed part reference |

Manufacturing Capability Behind Your Order
Printing, lamination, slitting and bag making all run in one plant in Foshan, which is what makes a fully custom four side seal pouch practical: the film structure, the print and the seal layout are set by the same team that runs the machines.
| Equipment | Quantity | What it does for your order |
|---|---|---|
| Rotogravure printing lines | 4 lines (7, 8, 9, 11-color) | Up to 11-color printing for colour-critical artwork and repeat orders |
| Digital printing | Digital press | Short runs and combined SKUs without plate cost |
| Bag-making and auxiliary machines | 55 | Flat sachet, three-side-seal, stand-up, gusseted and flat bottom forming |
| Solvent-free lamination machines | 3 | Barrier builds with no solvent residue in the laminate |
| Dry lamination machines | 2 | Structures that require adhesive lamination, including foil builds |
| Slitting machines | 4 | Roll preparation and consistent web width before bag making |
| Quality inspection machines | 6 | Inspection of printed and finished pouches before packing |
Every batch is checked on these points before it is packed:
- Seal strength — all four fin seals are tested so the pouch holds through filling, cartoning and transit.
- Leak check — critical on liquid, sauce and retort portions, where a seal failure ends the order.
- Print and colour — checked against the proof you approved, including registration on spot finishes.
- Dimensions — pouch width, height and seal width are measured against the die-line.
- Accessory fit — window, notch, hang hole and rounded corner positions are verified before packing.
Quality procedures and inspection points are described in full on our quality control system page.
MOQ, Pricing and the One-Roll Rule
Pricing for custom four side seal bags is driven by two things: how the artwork is printed, and how much film the order consumes. Ruihong Packaging quotes 10,000 pcs minimum for gravure printing and 3,000 pcs per order for digital, and unit price drops noticeably once an order consumes one full roll of film.
The one-roll rule: how buyers calculate the best price point
One roll of film holds 6,000 metres. The quantity that consumes one full roll is 6,000 ÷ pouch width (in metres). The buyer example we quote from most often: for a 160 (W) × 240 (H) + 85 mm pouch, one roll equals 6,000 ÷ 0.16 = 37,500 pcs.
The same arithmetic works on a flat four side seal pouch, because the pouch is measured on its width. A 60 mm wide sachet reaches one roll at 6,000 ÷ 0.06 = 100,000 pcs; an 80 mm wide pouch reaches it at 6,000 ÷ 0.08 = 75,000 pcs.
Digital printing has no real minimum quantity. The 3,000 pcs floor exists to cover international shipping, multiple SKUs can be combined to reach it, and unit price rises noticeably when any single SKU is very small. If you are launching several flavours, fill weights or fragrances at once, digital printing with combined SKUs is usually the cheaper route.
Order quantity, film structure and print method are quoted together — send the details below and we will price both print routes so you can see where they cross over.
How to Order Custom 4 Side Seal Bags
Six steps from enquiry to delivery. Two of them decide the schedule: size and accessory confirmation, which has to be final before tooling because it changes the die-line and the bag-making setup, and artwork approval, which starts the production clock.
-
STEP 01
Requirement review
Send the product, pouch size in mm, target fill weight, print colours, accessories and order quantity. We confirm the film structure, thickness and accessory layout, then quote EXW, FOB or CIF.
-
STEP 02
Quotation and die-line
You receive the unit price with film structure, print method, MOQ and lead time stated, plus a die-line showing finished dimensions, the four seal areas and accessory positions for your artwork.
-
STEP 03
Artwork and accessories confirmed
Artwork is checked for colour count, bleed, seal areas, barcode placement and finish. Production lead time starts when the artwork and the order are both confirmed.
-
STEP 04
Printing
Gravure printing on the 7, 8, 9 or 11-color line, or digital printing for short runs and combined SKUs, with colour checked against the approved proof.
-
STEP 05
Lamination and curing
Films are laminated on 3 solvent-free lines or 2 dry lamination machines, then cured for the full period the adhesive requires before bag making begins.
-
STEP 06
Bag making, inspection and packing
Pouches are sealed on all four edges, accessories are cut and fitted, and every batch is checked for seal strength, leaks, print, colour and dimensions before export cartons and pallets are packed.

Custom 4 Side Seal Bags: Buyer Questions
The questions buyers ask most often before a first four side seal order, answered with the numbers we quote from: material, size, thickness, finish, MOQ, lead time and the one-roll price point.
A four side seal bag is a flat pouch heat sealed along all four edges, with no bottom gusset and no back seam. Both panels are therefore flat, giving the largest print area per gram of film. It is used for flat and single-serve products: coffee sticks and tea sachets, milk powder and drink mixes, spice portions, sheet mask and serum samples, seed samples, electronic components and small hardware parts.
A four side seal pouch arrives with all four edges already sealed, so the pouch itself is the finished pack: a flat, symmetric, fully closed portion. A three side seal sachet has only two side seals and a top seal, uses less film and is cheaper per pouch. Choose four side seal for a flat or sheet product, a larger printed panel and a more deliberate retail look on a hook or in a box.
No. A four side seal pouch is closed by its own four seals, so a press-to-close zipper cannot be fitted into it. If the product has to be resealable after opening, we build the pack as a three side seal sachet, a stand-up pouch or a flat bottom pouch instead, and quote the same film structure and printing on that format. Tell us at the enquiry stage and we will confirm which format fits.
The five structures we produce most often are PET/PE for short shelf life and dry goods, PET/VMPET/PE where light protection is needed, PET/AL/PE for long shelf life, PET/PA/AL/RCPP for hot fill or retort, and kraft paper laminates for a natural look. They are examples rather than a fixed list: lamination runs in house on 3 solvent-free lines and 2 dry lamination machines, so the barrier level is confirmed against your product, shelf life and filling process.
Yes, all of it. Send the finished pouch width and height in mm, the target fill weight in g or ml, and the seal width if your filling machine needs one. Film thickness follows the structure and the fill weight rather than being chosen separately, and printing runs up to 11 colours on four in-house rotogravure lines or as full-colour digital print. Every dimension, the four seal areas and the accessory positions are confirmed on a die-line before tooling.
Four finishes cover almost every enquiry: gloss for the brightest colours and highest contrast, matte for a soft low-reflection premium surface, soft-touch for a velvet hand feel on cosmetic and mask sachets, and spot gloss or spot matte registered on one pouch so a logo lifts off the background. Finish is chosen together with the artwork, because it changes how the printed colours read.
Yes, and this is where the format is strongest. Because all four edges are already sealed, the pouch can be die-cut: a euro or round hang hole in the top seal for pegboard display, rounded corners for handling and mail-ready packs, or a registered clear window so the product shows through. A tear notch or laser score can also be added for a clean opening without scissors. All of these are cut during bag making and must be on the die-line before tooling starts.
MOQ is 10,000 pcs for gravure printing and 3,000 pcs per order for digital printing. Digital printing has no real minimum: the 3,000 pcs floor covers international shipping, and several SKUs can be combined in one order to reach it. Production lead time is 7-9 days for digital and 12-15 days for gravure, counted from artwork approval and order confirmation, with shipping transit time additional.
The best gravure price point is one full roll of film. A roll holds 6,000 metres, so the quantity that consumes one roll is 6,000 divided by the pouch width in metres. For a 60 mm wide sachet that is 100,000 pcs; for an 80 mm wide pouch it is 75,000 pcs; and for a 160 (W) × 240 (H) + 85 mm pouch it is 37,500 pcs.
